How is DIN Calculated?

The DIN setting (Deutsches Institut für Normung) determines how much force is required for your ski bindings to release. It is calculated based on five key factors:

  • Weight & Height: Determine your initial "Skier Code" (Row A-O).
  • Skier Type: Adjusts the code up or down. Beginners need easier release (lower DIN), while experts need retention (higher DIN).
  • Age: Skiers over 50 generally require lower settings due to bone density changes.
  • Boot Sole Length: The leverage your boot exerts on the binding affects the required torque.
